LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – As Harvey wreaks havoc in Texas, Las Vegans worry for family and friends stuck in the storm.
Bethany Gignac moved to Las Vegas in June. Her parents, sister, and other family members still live in Houston.
She said she’s been communicating with them constantly since Harvey hit the area on Saturday.
“I tend to feel helpless. The only thing I can do from here is pray,” Gignac said.
Gignac is a member of Anchor Hill Church where several members are also from Houston. Gignac said their support has made it easier to be so far from home.
“It’s been a wild 24-48 hours,” she said.
Basil Zangare is a native of Las Vegas now living in Seabrook, Texas. He talked to 13 Action News via Facetime. He said his mom, who lives in Las Vegas, has been deeply concerned for his well-being.
“I’m trying to give her updates, not to worry,” Zangare said.
Las Vegans are also stepping up to donate to groups like the American Red Cross.
Local animal advocates are collecting donations to bring to pets affected by the storm. Donations can be dropped off at Twisted Vape located at 6985 W. Sahara Avenue, Suite No. 113.
